The Director of Advancement is accountable to the Headmaster and has executive leadership and management responsibilities for developing and sustaining a long-term philanthropic giving program for the School. This position has oversight for the development and implementation of fundraising strategies with regards to all stewardship programs which secure revenue for the School. The person develops a stewardship strategy and sets priorities, goals and budgets; researches and identifies potential donors. This position is also responsible for the overall management of the School’s external communications programs, website and publications, the Georgian relations department and the administrative support for the Advancement Office; this includes the maintenance of a comprehensive donor/student/alumni/ database, the issuance of tax receipts, and the proper collection and record keeping for all donations. Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the Headmaster, and is accountable to the Chair of the Board Advancement Committee for the work of that committee. The position also works closely with the Foundation Board with respect to endowment funds.

Responsibilities:

  1. Organize and supervise the integration of all advancement programs (fundraising, alumni relations, donor stewardship, communications and archives).
  2. Plan and execute a comprehensive fundraising program to fulfil all fundraising commitments annually in support of agreed priorities, including capital campaign, endowment and annual giving programs and planned giving program.
  3. Collaborate with and organize the time allocations of the Headmaster, Chair of the Board, and other key volunteers and staff to optimize their effectiveness as fundraisers for the School.
  4. Solicit major gifts personally; prepare written proposals and materials to support fundraising efforts.
  5. Provide strategic direction and guidance to the Board of Directors & the Foundation Board; attend their events.
  6. Support and provide direction to the Chair and Members of the Board Advancement Committee.
  7. Prepare and monitor annual Advancement budget, including revenue and expenses, in collaboration with the Director of Finance and the Headmaster.
  8. Make public appearances and presentations to various groups in the Meadowridge community.
  9. Contribute to the Management of the School.
  10. Ensure the Advancement team remains on target and accomplishes their annual goals. Provide direction and support to the Advancement team members to assist in their professional development and growth.
  11. Create fundraising goals and strategies with an emphasis on continuous improvement in participation rates for all funds.
  12. Work jointly with other departments in the School to develop fundraising strategies.
  13. Develop yearly plans and monitor progress regularly.
  14. Work closely with members of the Leadership Team in relation to any fundraising and promotional work, including development of ‘ambassadors’ for Meadowridge School.
  15. Work with the finance office and Department Heads on fund reporting, ensuring funds are used for the intended purposes, and to prepare written stewardship reports to donors on an annual basis.
  16. Ensure due diligence around the protection of the School’s charitable status and ethical fundraising guidelines.
  17. Ensure the administrative policies and procedures of the Advancement Office remain at the highest standards, including timely letters of thanks and accurate tax receipting for donations, the active use of the Senior System’s database and the generation of reports for the use of the Headmaster and the Board as required.
  18. Respect the School’s privacy policy in all matters relating to the Advancement Office.
