Senior Associate Director of Major Gifts, Science, Simon Fraser University
The Senior Associate Director, of Major Gifts, Faculty of Science is responsible for managing relationships with existing corporate donors and prospects determined to have the ability to make special gifts ($20K to $100K) and major gifts ($100K or higher) by developing and implementing strategies for securing financial support from a portfolio of donor/prospects including identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding these relationships.
This position requires exceptional communications and grant writing skills, event and project management experience and experience with working with corporate funders. The candidate have the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects independently, and be able to take initiative as well as work as part of a cohesive advancement team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the management of key corporate donors and prospects, through the construction of a pipeline of desirable prospects and development of donor-centric approach plans that reflect the corporate partners’ marketing and business needs, as well as philanthropic and community engagement goals.
- Under direction of the Advancement Director, works closely with University Advancement, Marketing & Communications, and other Faculty departments to leverage all organizational assets in an effort to initiate innovative ideas and maximize opportunities to ensure partnership benefits and support are in alignment.
- Works with the Director Advancement to create compelling collateral that will engage, influence and inspire existing and potential donors including cases for support, proposals, decks and related documents.
- Leads the production and communication of all fundraising marketing and communication special initiatives and collateral and co-ordinates third party vendors such as graphic designers, web designers, videographers and related contractors.
- Project manages content creation and dissemination (creating content development goals and timelines).
- Secures event sponsors and works with appropriate parties to achieve corporate sponsorship goals for the Faculty’s special events and strategic initiatives and (i.e. Starry Nights, Science Outreach Programs, etc.)
- Minimum of 4 years of experience working ideally in the non-profit sector, with a preference for those with a marketing and communications background who have worked within a fundraising setting or context.
- Strong writing, editing, proofreading, planning and project management skills.
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Significant exposure and experience with communications in a non-profit setting including experience
- deploying social media strategies.
- Experience envisioning and implementing marketing campaigns, which will impact fundraising.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and relationship management skills.
- Excellent research, solicitation, and cultivation skills.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and analytical reasoning skills.
- Excellent human resource management and teamwork skills.
- Excellent strategic planning skills.
- Proficient in the use of word, database, spreadsheet, and presentation applications and prospect management systems.
